Top 10 Tips for Disciplining Your School-Age Child
Sometimes It is very easy to tell what is right and what is wrong to
the school age kids because they have grown enough to know the
differences between the right and wrong. I am writing these 10 tips to
use for disciplining your child, some of them might help you to
disciplining your child, You have to keep this in mind that every child
thinks the different way so you have to control yourself and make him
feel that he / she is secure no matter what happens because children who
feel secure are more likely to control their impulse which provides you
a more peaceful atmosphere at home.
Control yourself :
Sometimes it happens due to loads of work stress, financial problems
and sleepless nights but setting up a good example is more important.
Yelling is not the solution every time, If you speak slowly in a low
tone it is more likely that your child will be more attentive and this
would help your child to understand things in a better way.
Don’t Punish More Often :
I had seen many times parents punish their little children by
grounding them for a long time, Do you want to stick with that kind of
punishment for you? Did you ever think that is this the only option? ,
Well sometimes it works but it has worst effects on mental behavior of
your child
Compliment good behavior :
A day out in a park and you are playing football with your kid if he /
she is playing nice and his behavior is good with others then telling
him that he is doing great would really help him to boost his
self-confidence
Say what you can do :
If you can’t lock your child for 2 months then don’t say it , because
empty threats will spoil parent child relationship and he will realize
quickly that you are not going to follow what you said and they will
stop listening
Removal :
If you are for a shopping at a store with your kid and he start
touching things when he / she is not suppose to do and stop listening to
you, then best option would be to leave the store and save your
shopping for next day, This will slowly realize him
Explain :
Explaining your “no’s” will make your child understand that why he shouldn’t do certain things, So just “no” is not the solution
Reward :
When your kid is doing right you should get him rewards and it will
help him to realize that doing right things and listening to what parent
say will get him toys or games
Teach empathy :
Make your kid realize that what other feels when they do something
wrong, for example if your kid kick his classmate then telling him
politely that this was wrong and how the other kid felt would help him
not to do this again
Establish a schedule :
Establishing a schedule have great impacts on discipline, When your
child know that 5pm is bath time and 7pm is books time it will help to
remove bad things from his head because he / she will be busy in
following the schedule
Communicate expectations :
Tell your child that what do you expect from him before going to a
certain place would help him to behave good, for example if you are
going to a family gathering and you tell him that you expect from him to
behave good and listen to what his / her elders say will have surely
help to build his discipline
